紀念祖先用英語怎麼說

剛結束的清明節小假期，“清明節”英文怎麼說？是Qingming Festival嗎？

一、“清明節”不用festival

你們知道嗎，只有清明節，既是節氣又是節日。這個傳統的中國節日+節氣，許多外媒卻用的是Qingming Festival，如果你在谷歌是輸入【qingming】，也會出來一堆qingming festival，這是不準確的。

這就得從festival這個詞的含義說起：

festival有兩層含義

1。宗教的祭祀活動

猶太教／基督教／印度教節日

the Cannes Film Festival 戛納電影節

我們的“清明節”，既不是宗教活動，也不是又唱又跳的慶祝活動，當然不用festival

二、“清明節”到底怎麼說？

我們的清明節是祭祀祖先的重要日子，所以中國的清明節翻譯成Qingming Festival並不合適。

應該翻譯為：

Day of Ancestors 清明節

又因為清明節許多人都會掃墓，所以又可以叫

Tomb-sweeping Day 清明節

大家都用自己的拼音Qingmingjie，更有中國特色。

其實，國外也有類似我們"清明節"的節日

比如

Day of the Dead 墨西哥人的亡靈節

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday held on November 1 and 2。

亡靈節是墨西哥的一個節日，在11月1日和2日舉行。

All Souls' Day 美國的諸靈節

All Souls‘ Day is a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have died。

諸靈節是為逝者的靈魂祈禱和紀念的日子。

三、“紙錢”英語怎麼說？

清明節的一項重要活動就是祭祀，祭祀就要“燒紙錢”，那麼問題來了，“紙錢”英文怎麼說？

你不會說成paper money吧？

那你真是土豪沒錯了，因為：

paper money表示 紙質的貨幣

（是給人花的）

metal money 金屬貨幣

Paper money is the opposite of metal money。

紙質貨幣是與金屬貨幣相對的。

而我們說的“紙錢”，是給去世的人花的

英文可以這樣說：

joss paper 紙錢，冥幣

joss/ds 中國的神

ghost/spirit money 鬼錢，紙錢

ghost/sprit 鬼魂，幽靈

We need burn joss paper on the Day of Ancestors。

清明節的時候需要燒紙錢。

Joss paper is burned on Chinese traditional funerals or ancestor worship ceremonies。

在中國傳統的葬禮或者祭祖活動中，需要燒“紙錢”。
