如何用英語給出建議 Giving advice in English

06:11

Oh。。。 oh, you should really put some cold water in there。

噢,你真該放點冷水進去。

Um, set your alarm for 7:15。

What?

嗯,把鬧鐘定在7點15分。

咋?

Giving advice is something we all do from time to time。

提供建議是我們經常做的事。

It‘s a way to help a friend or family member to find a solution to a problem。

它是幫助朋友或家人找到解決問題的方法。

And this can be so helpful in the right circumstances。

在適當的情況下這會很有幫助。

However, as we saw at the beginning of this video, giving advice can also quite easily be impolite, offensive, or just really annoying if it’s not given at the right time or said in the right way。

然而,正如我們在影片一開始所看到的,如果沒有在正確的時間給出建議或用正確的方式說出來,提出建議也很容易變得不禮貌、冒犯他人,或者真的很煩人。

When giving advice, you should avoid giving someone an instruction。

提供建議時,你應該避免給別人指示。

Get some new shoes。

換雙新鞋。

It is rude to tell somebody what to do, especially when they‘ve not asked for your opinion。

告訴別人該怎麼做是不禮貌的,尤其是當他們沒有徵求你的意見時。

In Britain, we have a certain standard of manners and politeness and this is obvious in the words and sentence structures that we use to give advice。

在英國,我們有一定的禮儀和禮貌標準,這一點在我們給人建議時使用的單詞和句子結構中表現得很明顯。

We don’t like to be too direct。

我們不喜歡過於直接。

So, let‘s learn a different and more polite way using the second conditional。

那麼,讓我們學習一種不同的、更禮貌的使用第二條件句的方式提出建議吧。

If you’re not sure how to use the second conditional, I have a whole video about that which I‘ll link in the description below。

如果你不知道如何使用第二條件句,我有一個關於這個知識點的影片,我會把它連結到下面。

So, a key phrase you can use to give advice is “if I were you”。

你在提出建議時可以用的一個重要短語是“如果我是你”。

This is a phrase that suggests that you are “putting yourself into another person’s shoes”。

這個短語的意思是“設身處地為他人著想”。

It‘s a british idiom which means to imagine that you’re that person and to try and think as if you are in the same position as them。

這是一個英國習語,意思是把你想象成那個人,試著想象你和他們處在同樣的位置上。

When we use the word “if”, it shows that it‘s not true and that this is a hypothetical situation。

當我們使用“如果”這個詞時,它表明這不是真的,這是一個假設的情況。

So, if something is hypothetical, it’s not real, but it‘s being used to discuss the outcome of a situation which hasn’t happened or couldn‘t happen。

如果某件事是假設的,它就不是真實的,但它用來討論還沒有發生或者不可能發生的情況的結果。

Anyway, we’re going down the rabbit hole。

不管怎樣,我們繼續吧。

In this case, you cannot become another person, but you are thinking about what you would do if you could become that person。

在這種情況下,你不能成為另一個人,但你在想,如果你能成為那個人,你會做什麼。

So, “if I were you”。

那就是,“如果我是你”。

As always, with the second conditional, we then place a comma before the new clause and then describe what you would do in the past simple tense using the verb “would” and then the base form of the main verb。

同樣,對於第二條件句,我們要在新子句前加一個逗號,然後用過去時 would 加上主要動詞的原形來描述你會做什麼。

Here‘s an example, it will make it clearer。

這裡有個例子來說明一下。

“If I were you, I would break up with him。”

“If I were you”, comma, “I would break up with him”。

“如果我是你,我會跟他分手。”

“如果我是你”,逗號,“我會跟他分手。”

The reason this feels more polite is because it’s less direct rather than saying “you must do this”, “you must break up with him” or “you should do this”。

這讓人覺得更有禮貌的原因是,這樣不像說“你必須這麼做”、“你必須和他分手”或“你應該這麼做”那麼直接。

Instead, you‘re saying “this is what I would do” and then allowing that person to decide if that would be best for them too。

相反,你是說“這就是我要做的”,然後讓那個人來決定這是否對他們也是最好的。

You can also switch these clauses around。

你也可以把這些子句轉換過來。

So, “If I were you, I’d wait” would become “I‘d wait if I were you”。

於是,“如果我是你,我會等”會變成“我會等,如果我是你的話”。

After you’ve said your first sentence using second conditional to explain what you would do, you can then use the present tense to explain why。

在你用第二條件句說出第一句話來解釋你要做什麼之後,你可以用現在時來解釋為什麼。

Um, if I were you, I‘d put some cold water in there。

嗯,如果我是你,我會放一些冷水進去。

It’ll be too hot otherwise。

不然它就會太熱。

Thanks。 That‘s a great idea。

謝謝,好主意。

I’d get some new shoes if I were you。

如果我是你,我會換雙新鞋。

You‘re running a lot at the moment and they don’t look very comfortable。

你現在經常跑步,它們看起來不太舒服。

Yeah, I‘ve been thinking about that too。 Thanks。

對,我也在想這個。謝謝。

If I were you, I’d wake up at 7:15。

You might miss the traffic if you leave a little earlier than usual。

如果我是你,我會在7:15醒來。

如果你比平時早一點出發,你就可以避開交通擁擠。

That‘s a good idea, but I already get there early, so I think it’s fine。

那是個好主意,但我已經提前到了,所以我覺得沒關係。

Thanks, love。

謝謝,親愛的。

Do you see how rather than telling someone what to do by suggesting that you would do something in a certain way and explaining why it comes across as far more polite and helpful?

明白了嗎,與其告訴別人該怎麼做,不如建議你用某種方式做某事,並解釋為什麼這樣做會讓人覺得更有禮貌和有幫助。

Now, it‘s your turn to give some advice。

現在,輪到你提建議了。

I’m going to give you three different scenarios and I‘d like you to write out the advice that you could give to a friend with that problem in the comments。

我會給你三個不同的場景,我希望你在評論中寫下你可以給有這個問題的朋友的建議。

You can be as creative as you like and you can create your own details too to make your answer more in-depth。

你可以隨心所欲地創造,你也可以創造自己的細節,讓你的答案更詳細。

So, the first scenario is your friend is at university。

第一個場景是你的朋友在上大學。

They have an essay due in three days and they’ve not even started yet because they find the subject very difficult。

他們三天後就要交一篇論文了,他們甚至還沒有開動,因為他們覺得很難。

What advice would you give them?

你會給他們什麼建議?

The second scenario: your friend has been offered a new job。

第二個場景:你的朋友得到了一份新工作。

The new job pays much less than their old job but it is with a much nicer company。

新工作的薪水比舊工作少得多,但公司要好得多。

Hmm。 What advice would you give them?

唔,你會給他們什麼建議?

The final scenario is your friend is cooking dinner for their new boyfriend or girlfriend‘s parents。

最後一個場景是你的朋友正在為他們的新男友或女友的父母做飯。

They don’t know what to cook and they‘re feeling very nervous。

他們不知道該做什麼,而且感到非常緊張。

What advice would you give them?

你會給他們什麼建議?

I can’t wait to read your advice in the comments and to see your new English skills being put to good use。

我迫不及待地想看看你們在評論中的建議,看看你們的新英語技能得到了很好的運用。

If you have a spare few minutes, then why not come and join me in another lesson?

如果你有空餘的幾分鐘,為什麼不來和我一起上另一節課呢?

Otherwise, I will see you some other time。

否則,我們改天再見。

Take care。 Bye。

保重,拜。
